Lots of action in Super 7

We are exploring with lapse and seeing what happens over time.  Lots of thinking to get the right number of frames per second to see what we want to see.  What would make this better?

Adding fractions

We are using virtual manipulatives to let us see how fractions are added. These fractions have the same denominator so we can add the numerator.

Now we are going to use educreations to add our explanation if what we did.

Chatting with other children around the country- Being connected!

I do believe that we learn a lot from chatting.  Chatting about something we are doing, chatting with someone we are prepared to listen to, and chatting to ask further questions.

There is an online chat for kids on Wednesday afternoons.  It is run through twitter.  Each session has a theme with some simple questions structured around it.  Here are the questions for this week.

This week's topic for #kidsedchatnz is Writing!

Q1. What have you been learning about in writing this year?

Q2. What are some of the topics you have written about?

Q3. What makes a good writer?

Q4. How important is the reader when you write?

Q5. What are some of the things you have enjoyed doing in writing this year?

Also, there is a competition to design a logo for this chat group.  Feeling creative?

Swimming Sports Fun at Huia Pool

We loved being at Huia Pool today for our School Swimming Sports.  We all took part in several races.  The whole school was there.  Some of year 3 and all of the year 4,5 and 6 children were in the big pool.  We all tried really hard when we were doing our races.   Lots of cheering and clapping was going on.  There were length and width races. Many of us loved having our parents there to see how much our swimming has improved with nearly 2 weeks of daily practice.   It was lots of fun.

Hello guys how do you feel about the earthquakes? My family were very worried.

My Godmother came to Germany and she is staying here for three days. She missed us lots because the last time she saw us was five years ago in New Zealand .

Yesterday we show her schwabish Hall. It is a city that has a very big salt mine and that is where we are going to today.

Terran's Adventure Continues

Hello my adventure continues and this time my family looked around an amazingly decorated castle in Waldenburg. The castle was around nine hundred years old. Inside  the castle was a 65m deep well. Then I turned around and saw that inside the castle was a church, so we had a little look around the church. All four of my family lit a candle and prayed.

As soon as I got out of the castle I spotted 33m Tall look out tower, so I asked my mum if we could go into the tower and she said yes. When we were going up the stairs no one could get past any one because the stairs were 30cm wide and 15 long and 2 cm thick so when we got to the top of the tower it was really really high. The tower was so high it felt like we were still sitting in the plane.

Adding detail to our writing

Today we thought of our writing as a little seed that burst into life when we add more detail.  We looked at this great site to help us think of ways to add more detail to little moments.

We think Joe ( who created this) is a pretty great writer who has shown us how we could make our writing into gold.  We will share our writing soon:)

More News From Terran

Hello I'm back with more to tell. Today my dad, one of his friends and I went to a Mercedes Benz museum in Stuttgart. When we went into the museum on the top floor we saw the very first car in the world. Then we walked down a floor and saw one of the first fire engines with a motor (not drawn by horse).

After that we saw a car that could open its doors upwards, and it was called the gull-wing Mercedes, and it was really shiny.

Then we were walking down another floor, and we spotted racing cars but not only cars but also racing trucks!!!! And I was very surprised that they were racing trucks.

When we were at the last floor we saw a model of a car that could reach a speed of six hundred km/h. But those were not the only cars, those were just my favourite cars I liked best.

News from Terran

Today we went to a fun park. It had roller coasters and log rides,go carts and much more. The roller coasters were really really fast, it even felt like we were going to fling of the side of the track. The log ride was in the water, and there was an escalator that carried us up and some ramps to slide us down. The go carts were on a track, and you could only manage the speed that it went with, but when you made it go full speed it went really really fast.

A special Visitor

Today the Mayor of Lower Hutt, Ray Wallace came to visit.  He enjoys visiting schools in Lower Hutt.  He was wearing his special gold Mayoral Chain which is 122 years old.
He talked to us about his job, and we asked  many questions.  We talked about the earthquakes, and he asked us many questions too.  He asked us if we had a plan of action for our family. He suggested we talk to our parents about this and work out what we should do in an emergency

Fun skype session today

After lots of great questions and problem solving we worked out that our mystery Skypers were Room 5 from Mangaroa School.

We found many things that we have in common.  We are sharing  some ideas for fun collaborative ways to learn together on  a doc
